Advanced Sports Massage

Total Hours: 125.00

This course will cover three major aspects of sports massage that encompass most of the work that you will do in the field-working with athletes in training, working with injury recovery and rehabilitation, and the anatomy & physiology necessary to do that work effectively. Training and recovery is about understanding what kind of work is appropriate at different points in that cycle-understanding exercise physiology and when it is appropriate to do work that challenges or changes the musculoskeletal system and when it is appropriate to offer support to the recovering system. An athlete under the care of a good massage therapist will probably be less vulnerable to injury, but when injury does occur, the massage therapist plays an important role in helping that athlete return to full performance more quickly. Helping people through injury recovery is also a major skill for a massage therapist to acquire outside the realm of working with athletes, which can be applied in many work environments with clients of any age or occupation. Advanced Sports Massage will give you the confidence and skills to move toward working in all of these environments.
