This 40-hour course is intended to give the student a deeper understanding of the muscular system. We will explore muscle attachments, fiber orientation and muscle actions. Students will palpate each other in order to learn the location of the muscles. We will discuss muscle physiology, aerobic and anaerobic respiration and the importance of bodywork in affecting muscle physiology. The students will become familiar with the definitions, signs/symptoms, and treatments of several soft tissue pathologies. We will compare and contrast four advanced massage modalities. Our discussions will include the topics of tissue injury and repair as well as the decision making process for determining local and general contraindication. This class will include both lecture and muscle palpation.
