Why Choose McKinnon

  • Programs and courses offer solid foundations as well as a variety of techniques and modalities to suit beginners or established professionals seeking continuing education.
  • Courses feature an excellent balance between lecture, demonstration, and hands-on practice. Most courses incorporate hands-on learning, so you’ll be prepared to work in your field.
  • Tuition structure and paths to certification and practice are the most competitive, flexible, and time-efficient in the Bay Area.
  • All McKinnon instructors are current practitioners in the field.
  • Many advanced courses include on-site clinics and off-site field trips. These experiences offer opportunities to work directly with the populations discussed in class.
  • Our 250-, 500-, and 1000-Hour Programs can be customized, so that you may choose the styles of bodywork that interest you the most.
  • Courses are scheduled in a variety of ways – mornings, days, weekends, evenings, and intensives – to suit your pace and financial/scheduling needs.
  • Our cost per classroom hour is very reasonable compared with other schools.
  • There are significant certificate program discounts for continuing/returning students and for full advance payment for certificate programs.
  • We charge 0% interest for payment plans, AND you won’t have a large student loan to pay off after you graduate.

Choose from one of our three massage training programs:

250-Hour Program

If you are exploring massage therapy as a possible career option, begin with our Massage Foundations Program. Combine Swedish with either Shiatsu & Acupressure Foundations or Deep Tissue Foundations to fulfill your hours. Program benefits include personalized program support and instructor feedback. If you prefer to begin your exploration with courses other than those listed for this program, you are welcome to do so: hours would count toward the 500-hour program, should you decide to pursue it. 500-Hour Program

If your goal is to become a professional Massage Therapist, we recommend the 500-hour program. Hours from all courses and electives offered at McKinnon count toward the 500-hour total. 500-Hour Program benefits include complimentary student membership/liability insurance through ABMP, personal instructor feedback, and additional program/career support. In California, 500 hours of education from an approved school and a passing score on the MBLEx are required for Certified Massage Therapist status (information is available at www.camtc.org). (read more)

1000-Hour Program

If you have completed the 500-Hour Massage Therapist Program and desire the highest level of preparation and distinction, you may continue your education by completing an additional 500 hours of coursework at McKinnon BTC. Through one-on-one meetings with Senior Faculty, you receive additional support to help you reach your goals. Private tutorials and clinic work are required in addition to coursework.
