Tui Na

Tui Na is traditional Chinese meridian massage and has been respected as one of the five major branches of Chinese Medicine for 4700 years. It is the root practice of both Shiatsu and Swedish massage. Tui Na addresses muscles and joints in practical ways and is applicable to a wide range of clients, from athletes to babies. The approach is dynamic and encourages relaxation without the use of a lot of pressure. Because the approach includes enhancing the flow of energy through the acupressure meridians, it is highly effective in changing deep patterns of tension and fatigue and is also excellent for rehabilitation after injury.

Our tradition of Winds and Waters Tui Na is founded in tai chi and is thus easy on the body of both the practitioner and the client. Our focus is bringing people back to energetic and physical balance. We can consider tui na as energy work, a qigong method working with the lightness or wind or the deep penetration of water into areas that are tight. We work with many levels of the body in order to bring balance, coordination, and ease of mobility. Tui Na uses wave after wave of different techniques to move through the body, reestablishing rhythms that have been broken up by tension in order to realign the body and reestablish the natural flow of energy.

The work is done over clothing so Tui Na can be used in almost any setting: the business office, the sports arena, the farmer’s market, or the beach. Our program focuses on table work but includes an introduction to barefoot Tui Na for the floor. The style can also be easily adapted to both standard chairs and massage chairs. There are over 20 hand techniques in addition to a variety of range of motion techniques taught throughout the program. Classes include: Tui Na Foundations, Tui Na for the Meridians and Points, Tui Na Advanced, Tui Na Cupping, Tui Na for the Chakras, Tui Na Yin Applications, Tui Na Yang Applications, Tui Na Reflexology, Tui Na Side-Lying.
